I need to be able to perform the following under program control and I need to known if Decmcc provides an SNMP API for GET-NEXT SET TRAP I have looked at the SNMP AM but it does not seem to have an ability to access the SNMP commands from a user application. I am currently looking at modules from CMU (public domain sw) that provide an API for SNMP, but they have been tested on sun/hp not a VAX. I will be accessing info from a cisco router and based on inputs from traps or operator input I need to set params outlined in the cisco mib. I also need to access stats dealing with the router. Thanks fot the input Frank A. Palase

I guess from the lack of response that DECmcc can't do this and thus we cant sell the product to meet the stated objectives!!!!!!! Frank A. Palase | |||||

Frank, Currently there is no snmp api available in DECmcc. The snmp access module provides snmp capability to DECmcc via the mcc_call() interface. This implies that only "tightly" coupled management modules have access to snmp protocol capabilities. We recognize the need for an alternate interface to snmp capabilities that will provide a mechanism for "loosely" coupled applications to run with DECmcc. We are in the process of sorting out the details of what this means and how we can solve this problem. We are looking at several things at the moment including the possibility of layering a high level api on top of one of the existing snmp packages available either via public domain (cmu) or buy-out (snmp research).
