    I was recently at a customer site where DECmcc 1.2 had just been
    installed.  They had a problem with a PC on the net and asked if I
    could communicate with it.  This PC was using a 3-com board.  I tried
    to register it with the Station AM so I could test it's reachibility
    and I couldn't get it to work.
    
    I then used ETHERnim to do a request ID and and Ethernet level loop. 
    This worked just fine.
    
    I was a more than a little embarrassed when pressed for an explanation
    of why I could use ETHERnim to test reachability of a PC Ethernet card
    and DECmcc wouldn't work.  
    
    I don't have an explaination.  I fully expected it to work.  Could
    someone shed some light on this subject - i.e., what does ETHERnim have
    that DECmcc doesn't that makes one work and not the other?
