3574.0. "how to manage two-state alarms" by ANNECY::HAGENMULLER (EIC Annecy - dtn 7887.41.99) Mon Aug 17 1992 08:39

I wonder if there is a way on the iconic map to show 2 different states of
an alarm.
Suppose you manage a remote entity that is also remotely controlled by an
administrator and you want to be sure that a specific alarm has been seen
by this administrator. One way to achieve this is to ask the remote adminis-
trator to send you an acknoledge for each alarm.

The global network administrator should be able to distinguish between an
entity with non-acknoledged alarms and an entity whose all alarms have
already been acknoledged : for example a blinking icon would represent an
entity with a non acknoledged alarm (no matter the severety level of this
alarm), while a non-blinking icon would mean that all the alarms have been
acknoledged (the color will still represent the severity level of the alarm).
It appears that the blinking mecanism is not available with DECmcc.
Is there another way to implement these two-state alarms (by defining a
large line thickness for the outline of the icon in case of an non-acknoledged
alarm, ....) ?

thanks for any input
