3560.0. "simple names" by CTHQ::WOODCOCK () Thu Aug 13 1992 11:09

Hi there,

Back in the days of V1.1 there was a lot of talk about using simple names
on the maps for entities. The only method I have seen is the ALT ID options.
Unfortunately this seems to only help out the most with NODE4 class objects,
most of the other classes appear to only supply options for NAME (which turns
out to be fullname) and ADDRESS. Are there any other methods or hints if I've
missed something. Of primary concern are bridges, concentrators, termservers.

Also, can I change to a LOCAL_NS (not use DNS) by simply changing a logical
and not reinstalling the kits (BMS, ELM, TS AM) with the understanding that
reregistration needs to occur???

thanks for any input,
brad...

Yes. Don't forget you'll need to re-create domains, too.

3560.2Trick used in DEMO package.RACER::daveAhh, but fortunately, I have the key to escape reality.Fri Aug 14 1992 17:0813
This is exactly the "trick" the "DEMO" package uses.
(See also: NOTED::MCC-TOOLS)
That way, the demo package does not interact with your "production"
environment, and your "production" environment changes dont mess up the demo.

A problem you might have with this approach is:

	What happens if one "MCC" environment does not define the logical,
and another one does? What will happen to the event pool?

I hate to think about the "uglyness" of having two mcc environments
running on the same system.
