Why do alarms not run the alarms fired procedure when the result of the last evaluation goes from true to false? eg, I have a rule for evaluating utilization of a decnet circuit. When it fires, it creates a line in the notification window saying - Minor Rule Fired: xxx_circuit_utilization..... It also run the alarm fired procedure to send mail/pager/opcom etc. When the alarm evaluates clear, it creates a line in the notification window saying - Clear Rule Fired: xxx_circuit_utilization..... But it doesn't run the alarms fired procedure so the operators who don't use MCC as their primary interface for receiving alarms aren't told that the problem has cleared itself.

3505.1 | Alarms "Cleared" procedure? | RALLYE::MERRIFIELD | Tue Sep 01 1992 16:17 | 10 | |
This was functionality that was not understood to be useful. The "Rule fired procedure" was implemented in DECmcc V1.0 as the ONLY notification mechanism available in DECmcc. Shortly afterwards, "Exception procedures" were added so that it was possible to alarm on "unreachable" entities. If you believe that the ability to exceute a command/script procedure upon a "rule clear" condition is useful, perhaps it can be considered for a future release of DECmcc. Bob Merrifield |
