3434.0. "DECdecision/EXCEL/Lotus for reports" by SNOC01::MISNETWORK (MCC=My Constant Confusion) Mon Jul 27 1992 09:34

Scanning through this notes file, I haven't noticed much to do with
using DECdecision to create graphs using exported data. Has anyone done
this ? We have started looking at this option so that we can setup
some standard macros to deliver to customers when we setup their DECmcc
enviroment, and so far we have produced some basic utilization graphs.
If anyone out there has already worked in this area, we would like to
see the sort of macros you have so that we donnot have to reinvent the
wheel, because that takes time, and time we aint got!!

Our plan is to offer customers some basic macros for use with
DECdecision, maybe EXCEL if they are using it on their PC, or maybe
    even Lotus.

    Cheers,
    Louis

I have been playing with DECdecision for the same purpose as you
and with the same requirements. In my experience so far, the customers
do not want an interactive utility to do this with. Am I mistaken
or will recorded macros in DECdecision still require someone to
log on and start a DECdecision session? The bottom line is that
network managers that I know want this info to be produced
automatically on a daily or weekly basis. Interactive work is fine
for occasional report generation, ie. 6 month trend analysis, but
most shops will not afford the manpower to sit in front of the decision
screen on a regular basis. If the DECdecision stuff can be done
in batch, please let me know as I am about to delve into modifying
some of the canned datatrieve routines :-(.

Batch reports, batch reports, batch reports are whats needed. There,
I hope that horse is finally dead.

    Hi,

I typically try to include DECwrite/DECdecision along with DECmcc.
By adding DECwrite to produce reports based on existing document
'templates', Livelinks to Builder blueprints, etc. It all comes
together quite well. The 'Inform' command does the same stuff, but
detached. All is presented as Fileview pull-down menus. I have only
done a few simple reports for a demo. But as the complexity of the
requested information goes up, so does the value of this approach
(e.g. drill down child entity level in real-time should you need that)
    as well as scheduled reports.

3434.3EXCEL with PABX AM.HLRG02::SYSTEMIncredible but . . . not true .Tue Jul 28 1992 06:3014
Hi,

With the newest version of the PABX AM it is possible to create a spreadsheet
input file.
We created really fantastic reports with EXCEL and LOTUS, but finally we choose
for EXCEL.
Now we are trying to make an EXCEL macro to make automatically every month
PABX reports about the PABX traffic of that month.
