3410.0. "DECmcc SBS v1.2 EXITS on SNMP Registration" by DYOSW5::ALLEN (R.W. Allen) Wed Jul 22 1992 14:32

I installed DECmcc v1.2 on a VAXstation 3100. When i try to register a SNMP
entity DECmcc EXITS completely without any warning or error messages. It occurs
after i have entered all necessary information including address and Synonym
name. After I move my pointer to the ICONIC Map and click, the watch appears
and after a few seconds the ICONIC Map disappears. If i then restart DECmcc and
try to register the entity again it seems to work, at least an ICON appears.
However, when i click the SNMP entity Icon after a few seconds i receive a
message stating that no internet address was provided but of course it was.

Has anyone else seen this problem yet or have any ideas on what i can do?

Thanks,

Rich

More info:

- The installation of BMS and the IVP test completed fine.

- I tested the SNMP AM via DECmcc and it also completed fine.

- This installation was an update to v1.1, however the old namespace has been
  deleted and DNS reinstalled prior to the v1.2 update.

- The entity is registered with UCX.

- The entities in question worked fine with v1.1 of BMS

- The registration of all other entity types work fine inlcuding NODE4, BRIDGES
  TERMINAL SERVERS, etc.

3410.2Try registering thru FCL.YAHEY::BOSEThu Jul 23 1992 10:286
	Can you try registering the SNMP entities from FCL and post
	the results here. Another thing you might want to try is adding
	the registered entity to the domain and see if it appears on the map.

Sorry it took so long to get a response to reply #2, but the system
is at a customer site and i don't have quick access to it. But anyway,
I did try to register the entity from FCL and here is the result:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$ mcc
DECmcc (v1.2.0)

MCC> register snmp .R45B synonym=R45B, address=134.131.31.254, -
 in domain=netman_ns:.B45_Comm_Cabinet
%CMA-EXCCOP, exception raised; VMS condition code follows
-SYSTEM-F-RADRMOD, reserved addressing fault at PC=0000ad78, PSL=03C00000
%TRACE-F-TRACEBACK, symbolic stack dump follows
module name routine name line rel PC abs PC

							0004B8C0	0004B8C0
							0007C582	0007C582
							0051CF9A	0051CF9A
							0051D87D	0051D87D
							0051876A	0051876A
							000A2F65	000A2F65
							0007AAAB	0007AAAB
%TRACE-F-BADSTACK, stack has been overwritten
$
$
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even with the dump you see here, partial registration is still acheived. With
partial registration, of course an ICON does appear on the MAP. Trying to
click on the ICON results in a error message stating "No internet name provided".

Thanks in advance for any help,

Rich
3410.4Is your stack logical defined ?YAHEY::BOSETue Jul 28 1992 15:2410
	Can you check if the SNMP AM stack logical is defined, and if so,
	what value it has ?

	$ show logical MCC_TCPIP_AM_STACK

	It should have a value of at least 100 to run with UCX. (For TGV
	Multinet it should be 200).

Hi,
The logical MCC_TCPIP_AM_STACK is set at 100. I am using the UCX product.

The answer to QAR 03302 has arrived.
Do you wish to see it [Y]?
Use of obsolete TCPIP AM executable caused this problem.
