3403.0. "DECmcc v1.2 Registration problem" by SIOG::TINNELLY (Consultancy for fee NOT free..) Wed Jul 22 1992 09:43

    Hello Folks,

    I have just done an installation of DECmcc v1.2 ULTRIX, the workstation
    had V1.2.4 installed on it and working. Having completed the
    installation with no problems I fired up DECmcc, opened a new domain
    and brought up the Toolbox to add some entities eg a PH IV node to the
    network map. When I try and add the node CODS to the map I get the
    following error:

      No such entity Domain :Domain LoOCAL_NS:.Petert Member LOCAL_NS:.CODS

    I have done an IVP and everything is fine, I am in Superuser so it
    should not be a privilege or file protection problem. I done a
    deinstall of the V1.2.4 system, and basically started from scratch.
    Something simple is wrong but I cannot spot it.

    all help appreciated, as i have demo tomorrow.

    regards Peter.

3403.1Old MIR files?TOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, dtn 226-5033Wed Jul 22 1992 11:499
Did you remove the old MIR files after de-installing T1.2.4
(eg rm -r /var/mcc)? The MIR files are not compatible.

Also, is "LoOCAL_NS" a typo?

I assume you are using a local instance repository rather than DECdns.

3403.2Old MIR files there..SIOG::TINNELLYConsultancy for fee NOT free..Wed Jul 22 1992 12:2115

    Erik,

    I was just about to delete all the files in /VAR/MCC. I did not remove
    the old MIR files after de installing 1.2.4. I am about to start the
    installation from scratch.
    I believe I also need to de-install the Threads package from 1.2.4
    prior to installing the v1.2 kit.

    LoOcal_NS is a typo, and I am using the Local repository.

    Before I delete the files in /VAR/MCC and deinstall v1.2 and the
    Threads package and start a fresh installation, is there another way?

    regards peter.
3403.3Sorry, you must delete the MIRsTOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, dtn 226-5033Wed Jul 22 1992 13:019
T1.2.4 had the threads package included in the BMS kit, so it was deleted
when you de-installed T1.2.4 (you used "setld -d MCRBMST124", right?)
Special action is only required if you had the THRBASE110 kit installed.

There is no alternative to deleting the MIRs. The file format changed,
and so the old files are unusable with the new code.

3403.4Almost there..SIOG::TINNELLYConsultancy for fee NOT free..Wed Jul 22 1992 13:1215

    Erik,

    I went ahead and deleted the MIRs, and deinstalled the v1.2 Threads
    package and the v1.2 kit, and started a new installation and everything
    is fine now with regard to registering etc.

    The installation was very quick, I thought it would have asked me about
    Phase V as it did first time around. I notice I am not getting the
    Phase V icon in the toolbox. Did I miss something else?

    many thanks

    Peter.

    Erik,

    With regard to the PhaseV, I realise now that firs time around I
    installed all the subsets, whereas this time i took the BMS only. So i
    do not get the PhaseV subset.

    many thanks peter
