3396.0. "Security Management/Proxy question" by GRANPA::AMEISHEID () Tue Jul 21 1992 11:12

    Hi. Can someone point me to the right doc that explains the use of
    "proxy" in relation to DECmcc security management on ULTRIX?

    Also, do I have to look at the Use doc for each MM to find out what
    MM needs which privilege to do its job (this is on ULTRIX)? There is
    alot of documentation to read and it would cut down on the timeline for
    finding specific info on this (and the system administrator could
    request it specifically to be copied across the network).

    Maybe I misunderstood what I read (in the Intro. several times) but does
    DECmcc for ULTRIX not use ACLs (VMS only) for handling security
    management? Is putting an entry in .rhosts the same as an "ACL"?

    Has anyone written an MM that keeps the DECmcc user "captive" so that when
    they log into the DECmcc system, they login directly to the Iconic Map,
    assuming workstation, with access to the rest of the (operating system)
    functions from the PM's menu that would check privileges for that user?
    If they logged in, via terminal, could they login directly to the FCL
    and have the same thing set up?

    Thanks.

3396.1Access Control helps but ...GRANPA::AMEISHEIDTue Jul 21 1992 13:227
    Found info in DECmcc Use guide on Access Control but still need
    help with "proxy"specifics please. Think scenario for security at the
    end of .0 could be better handled by allowing user to run
    adduser (or enable/disable) script(s) from Applications/FCL Menu?

    Regards,
    Anna
