3284.0. "Exception: Insufficient Resources at Target Entity" by COL01::LUNT () Wed Jul 01 1992 13:58
Hello,
I am having troubles with setting up alarms on Routers. On the
routers that are reachable over Translan-Bridge connections, I often
get exceptions " Insufficient Resources at Target Entity". I am
currently running DECmcc X1.2.21. Before, with older versions, I
got this type of exception from Routers on the same LAN. Now I only
get the message from my "remote" routers, if you will. This problem
seems to occur when the Translan Bridge is heavily loaded.
Each router has 2 alarms for the Ethernet Circuit and 3 alarms per
synchronous circuit. The Routers in question have 3 to 4 synchrounous
lines apiece. The alarms poll in 15 minute Intervals.
I seem to remember reading, that Engineering built in a fix, that
repolled the alarm, when it got this error ( Insufficient Resources
at Target Entity ). Is this correct? If so how many times does DECmcc
repoll when it gets this error?
Does anyone have any ideas, how I can get around this problem. Will
staggering the polling times by a couple of seconds help in this case?
I remember there was an earlier note, as to this topic, but I can't
seem to find it ( I would be happy with a pointer to the correct note).
Thanks for any insight,
Julie Ann

3284.1 | max logical links ? | MFRNW1::SCHUSTER | Karl Schuster @MFR Network Services | Thu Jul 02 1992 03:28 | 5 |
| Did you check the maximum logical links executor parameter ?
It must be large enough for all the MCC links.
( check maximum logical links executor counter ).

3284.2 | max links-> how high? | COOQUE::LUNT | | Thu Jul 02 1992 05:28 | 17 |
| Hello Karl,
This could be my problem. We set the maximum links from 32
tp 64 just recently, because we had problems with not being able to
create terminal windows. My question on you is, does every alarm in
my batch job then need a link? The Routers that give me the "Insufficient
Resources" exception are at the bottom of my batch job. Also I have
about 103 router alarms, and 100 bridge alarms.
How high can I set this parameter?
I am running on a VAX 4000-500
Thanks,
Julie Ann

| We have set it to 128. But it can be higher, I think.

3284.4 | any more ideas?? | COL01::LUNT | | Fri Jul 10 1992 05:29 | 19 |
| Hello again,
I have set the maximum number of links to 124 but that didn"t
really help. I realize that there is a large time delay because
the poll must travel over a 64K TransLAN line. Are there any plans
to either increase the number of times DECmcc repolls, or the time
DECmcc waits for an answer? I really need a solution here. For our
Bridges that are over the TransLAN 64 K lines we have a similar
problem that Enginneering is tackling. I think however that
polling over TransLAN bridges is a general problem, and as we don"t
have director to director communications yet, this is the only way to
see an alarm locally on the iconic map without having to have many
sattelite mcc stations and many maps on your window. (The customer is
not keen on the idea of many DECmcc stations with or without
director communications as it costs money!! )
Thanks for any help or ideas,
Julie Ann
