Will re-installing the Alarms FM break anything if it's already installed on the system? In other words, if there are alarm rules already in a database somewhere, will re-installing the ALARMS FM screw anything up (like deleting them). I'm doing the kits for the 1.2 release of DECmcc ELM. Alarms and PA will be installed with our AM kit (if the base system is the MCC Director). To make my job easier, I wanted to know if I could always install PA and Alarms no matter if it's already there (DECmcc BMS is the base system). Will I break anything if I do?

What do you mean by "install"? Since alarms doesn't have its own kit I assume you simply mean putting the image in the right directory and enrolling it? Or do you mean install in the VMS known image sense? In any case when alarms is enrolled it will only recreate its rules database if it doesn't already exist, so you probably don't need to worry. | |||||

Or do you mean install in the VMS known | image sense? Both. If the customer has the MCC Director and installs [ooops, there's that word again :-)] the DECmcc ELM AM kit, we have to give them PA and ALARMS along with the bridge, concentrator and FDDI station AM's. For kitting I assume I need to do all of these things: Put all the image and non-image files where they belong. (Using the VMS INSTALL/REPLACE command to add the image to SYS$SHARE). Update the dictionary with the necessary information. Enroll the management module. | In any case when alarms is enrolled it will only recreate its rules | database if it doesn't already exist, so you probably don't need to | worry. Great. That's what I wanted to know. |
