3244.0. "BRIDGE AM unknown error code 58" by CUJO::HILL (Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident) Wed Jun 24 1992 15:38

    One of our LAN Bridge 100s "locked up" and was unmanageable from Line
    1, but was manageable from Line 2.

    When issuing a "SHOW CHARACTERISTICS" for LINE 1, I received an IMPM
    error message window with "unknown error code 58" message displayed.

    I could not reproduce this message. What does it mean.

    DECmcc V1.1, VMS V5.4-3, VAXstation 3100/38.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Dan,

Did you receive unknown error code 58 or

Extra information was returned for <> : code = 58.

If the second is true, it probably means the MS is incorrect because attribute
with code 58 was returned in outp and should not have been.

Hope this helps.

    Attribute #58 for bridge lines is Line Speed. There are no
    restrictions on bridge type, so all bridge models should encode it.

    I'll check it out.
3244.3Bridge problem resulted from bad transceiverCUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentWed Jul 29 1992 01:357
    Turns out the problem was the result of a bad transceiver (H4005) to
    which one of the ports was connected. The bridge was accessible from
    the good side.

    It would have been nice if DECmcc could have found this.

3244.4H40005's aren't manageble.YAZ8::GUARINOFri Sep 04 1992 11:426
Hi Dan,

Unfortunately, if the H4005 is bad, you usually can't talk to the
station hooked to it. Also, the H4005 is not manageble from software.
