Is there something different in Pathwork for DOS(TCP/IP)? The Ethernet AM can never register a PC running TCP/IP!!!. I tried it on the latest DOS(TCP/IP) V2.0 and still have the problem. With DECnet on the PC, and using the aa-00-04-00-xx-xx address, its ok. Has anyone succesfully registered a PC running our Pathworks TCPIP s/w. Raj Singapore

3239.1 | Ethernet physical address is different | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Thu Jun 25 1992 02:43 | 24 |
Try using the original Ethernet physical address for the controller. If it is a DEC controller, then the address will look like this: 08-00-2B-xx-xx-xx. This is the address the controller broadcasts before you start up DECnet Phase IV. FYI: As soon as you start up DECnet Phase IV, a new address based on the DECnet address (say 3.8) is calculated thusly: 3*1024+8=3080 3080, converted to hex is 0C-08. Swapping the hex pairs, then adding the normal DECnet prefix results in AA-00-04-00-08-0C. This becomes the new physical address for the node. Any time you start DECnet first, this is what happens. If TCP/IP is started before DECnet, you should see only 08-00-2B-xx-xx-xx. By the way, Phase V DECnet will not change the physical address any longer. -Dan |
