Can I get opinions on VXT configurations for MCC use: 1) Minimal/optimal VXT screen sizes/types: (15/17/19, mono, gray, color) 2) Additional memory above the as-shipped 4MB 3) Adequacy of performance (I've seen note 2340 - anything more recent?) This will be the sole MCC display/control device for a state-wide TCP/IP network running on Vitalink and Stratacom boxes. THANKS (in advance) Norm

3238.1 | No opinions? | BKEEPR::BREITNER | Sr. Sales Support Consultant | Tue Jul 14 1992 16:14 | 13 |
Either the readership is shy about responding (fat chance) or we're all using NCD X-terminals or we're all dumb and happy with our own VAXstations and don't know or care about X-terminals or I haven't asked the right question quite right yet. Is there any opinion to be shared or are all X-terminals equally OK for MCC? THANKS Norm | |||||

Hi there, Ok, I'll take a stab at it...disclaimer, I'm new to MCC, just working on a prototype for a customer. Our configuration is: VAXserver 3900/64mg Memory 2 RF71 disks 1 VT1300/SPX/8mg Memory I setup Elan for my Iconic Map, (EWS/DECwindows), it's a long story, but basically, it was hardware that had been purchased... We recently ran a demo using a 4000/VLC...buy the 4000! There are no limitations, that I know of, but there are alot of "flukey" things that we see from time to time, in a very small Network... 2 areas, about 75 total systems... From time to time the Xterminal doesn't boot... The performance, prior to the memory caching, is...limited. No "techy stats" to back up my words...just gut and experience. I've been using it for 3-4 months. Another disclaimer however, tomorrow I upgrade to V1.2...so stay tuned. Hope this is helpful. /Mic |
