Problems with MCC_STARTUP_DNA4_EVL.COM Hi there. I posted a note earlier and was corrected that the Collector AM Event Logging Sink and the Event Logging Sink that gets done at startup time are different...oops. I still have question regarding setting up the Event Logging Sink. What I'm trying to do is setup the local sink on the MCC Station (DG91MC), and want to sink with a target node, (DGQ1EM). Both are in the same domain, and I want to fire off alarms created within my domain, DOWNERS_GROVE. I only noticed this recently, since we've been doing some work with DECalert, but at startup time, MCC_STARTUP_DNA4_EVL.COM no longer creates the MCC_DNA4_EVL process. When I try to interactively activate MCC_STARTUP_DNA4_EVL.COM I get the following error messages: DECmcc (T1.2.7) Node4 1.91 Local Sink Monitor !1.91 is the MCC station AT 19-JUN-1992 10:40:05 Characteristics No privilege to perform directive at Node. Node4 1.91 Outbound Stream DGQ1EM Remote Sink Monitor AT 17-nov-1858 00:00:00 Deletion completed successfully. Node4 1.91 Outbound Stream DGQ1EM Remote Sink Monitor AT 19-jun-1992 10:40:13 No privilege to perform directive at Node. This message repeats 6 times and then... Node4 1.91 Local Sink Monitor AT 19-JUN-1992 10:40:45 Enable completed successfully. My question is, has something changed in T1.2.7 from X1.2.4 or is there something that poses a question changing from DNS to local namespace? Those are the only 2 things I can think of that have changed from when I originally setup the sinking. Also, I was sinking with a different node initially, so I tried replacing DGQ1EM with NP17X4, the 'original' node (that worked in 1.2.4), and I got the same error messages. Thanks in advance. /Mic

Hi there, Well, the procedure that I got from D_BALL, fixed the privilege violation, but I'm still not seeing the MCC_DNA_EVL process. The sinks are ok though... I also uncommented out the COLLECTION AM sinking from the MCC_STARTUP_BMS.COM file. I have an additional question regarding the sinking, what's the difference??? When would I use the COLLECTION AM and NOT the *other* sinking? And regarding ALARMS, what do most folks do with setting up Event Logging Sinks? Do they setup sinks to EVERY node they want to do remote alarming on or what? This seems like alot of overhead...per usual, I'm confused...smile. Thanks. /Mic | |||||

The collection AM sink is used to receive messages explicitely sent by the DECmcc data collector. It does not handle DECnet events (nor, for that matter, SNMP traps). The DNA4 event sink receives DECnet events, generated by DECnet phase IV systems. |
