3207.0. "DECmcc and Client Server (X11) at 64kb/s" by PADIS::PERIE () Thu Jun 18 1992 11:06

    I need to have an idea on the performances given by this configuration:

    DECmcc used in a Client-Server configuration on 64kb/s links.

    Thank you .
                                             Isabelle.

    Isabelle,

    I will offer some info, but it may not be appropriate to your case. I
    have run MCC IMPM across a 128kb DDCMP link from Philadelphia to the UK
    (near London). This link is used for all sorts of traffic, mail, file
    transfers, TCP/IP portals and AppleTalk tunnels. The utilization peaks
    at about 80%. I have (through very brief usage) had good performance
    up to when the link is running at about 40% util. Once it gets up
    towards 70% (rule of thumb for saturation of a synch line is 70%),
    there is very perceptible delays (upwards or 5 seconds at the heaviest
    saturation point). If your link is running via translans, you may get
    better throughput.

    My term "good performance" means that when I clicked a button or called
    up a menu, the response was, to the eye, instantaneous.

    Regards
