3182.0. "MCC_DNS_TRANSLATE_IDENT extension ? RFI." by KETJE::PACCO () Mon Jun 15 1992 15:35
I would suggest an improvement to the MCC_DNS_TRANSLATE_IDENT.
This call allows to get the PRIMARY identifier, ONLY of an alternate
identifier is specified.
It would be very handy also to get the SAME PRIMARY IDENTIFIER, when
the primary identifier is given. This is specially usefull now since
the notification FM expects an identical entity specification for both
SHOW ... ALL ID and GETEVENT ... ANY EVENT.
I have a DNS name as primary identifier. I use this as the entity id
for the level 0 out_entity argument. The in_entity ID can be the
primary identifier or any alternate identifier. However, if the
primary identifier is used, it is still not sure that the textual value
is identical. In fact all the following strings are valid FullName
specifications.
BRSADV
.BRSADV
NS:.BRSADV
NS:BRSADV
NS:.Brsadv
etc...
Therefore translation of all these strings to the string which is known
in DNS would be extremely useful, and upwards compatible for the kernel
routine MCC_DNS_TRANSLATE_IDENT.
Regards,
Dominique.
