3175.0. "Reintall questions" by VFOVAX::OUTMAN () Fri Jun 12 1992 08:28
Ok, I give up.
I should note that I am on a remote site without postscript or file
transfer capabilities, therefore, if I could find an installation
manual, I couldn't print it out. If there is an installation manual,
could someone give me a pointer, any other docs available would also be
helpful. I'll get it somehow, but in the mean time...
I just installed 1.2.7 over 1.2.4, when I first brought it up, all
my domains were gone. I am using the local MIR. I did the BMS startup
with the enroll parameter and things looked better, at least all
the menu items were there, along with my notification window.
This morning I rebooted my system, the notification window was gone and
all the menu items were not there, for example the "view" option in the
file pull down menu. In the customize menu, the Notification option,
enable and disable, were both lightly shaded and I could not select
them. I have tried to reenroll the notification FM, no help.
I then copied the following files from the old MCC_SYSTEM directory
MCC_DNS_ATT.DAT and MCC_DNS_ENT.DAT and I now see my domains, but I
still cannot get the notification window to come up as well as all the
other menu options. Is this file copy required?
I realize I may be missing a lot by not having an installation guide
and I am really new at MCC so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chuck

run DAP (mcc_dap) and type
SHOW CLASS MCC SUBCLASS ICONICMAP SUBCLASS APPLICATION
Is there a subclass NOTIFICATION_PM? If not, either
a. you are running the DIRECTOR kit, which doesn't have
notificatin services
b. you are pointing to the wrong dictionary
c. the dictionary is corrupt
d. someone deleted it.

3175.2 | Thanks... A few more questions | VFOVAX::OUTMAN | | Mon Jun 15 1992 08:28 | 20 |
| Thanks for the reply, I found the problem. I had a private dictionary
pointed to by a search list for the logical MCC_system. I removed the
logical for my private mcc_system and every thing was fine.
A couple of questions...
1. If a private dictionary is being used, is there a conversion
that has to take place on that dictionary that may not get
performed in the installation procedures.
2. Before installing the new version I could point a logical name
to a custom access module and it did not have to be installed.
Now it appears that the custom access module must be in
sys$share and installed. Is there a way around this?
Thanks
Chuck

There is no conversion. All management modules must be reinstalled.
