| I have entered this note as QAR 3139
However, it appears that the root of the problem is that you had some
DECmcc process running when you tried to install the kit, and so the
dictionary was locked (see messages earlier in the log).

| Yes, I understand the 1st time around that caused the messages.
What I'm pondering is if the 2nd pass hang is due to the incomplete 1st
pass (that I ^Yd) or is, of itself, a problem.
Thanks-

I just tried to install TCPIPDA on a VS4000 (VMS 5.5) on top of a
freshly installed BMS T1.2.7 and ran into the same problem (compute
bound loop). No MCC processes were running.
After CTRL/Ying out I installed TSAM successfully. I then started
the TCPIPDA installation again and ... looping. Its about 11:30pm
now. I'll let it run util tomorrow.
Good night,
Robert

Good morning installation, how are you?
Oh wonder, the installation went throuh without error. I don't have
exact timestamps for the parse table update, but the whole
installation took more than 90 minutes. The 'compute loop' after
"reading parse table file" must have taken more than an hour
(estimate) - on a VS4000-60!
What is DAP doing at this stage and what causes the long delay?

3159.6 | install continues after long wait | CSOADM::ROTH | The Blues Magoos | Fri Jun 12 1992 17:33 | 7 |
| Same story here... let it wait a while (~45mins to 60 mins) and it
came out of its 'loop' and continued.
Guess I was a sucker for that bit of text that said it would take about
5 minutes...

3159.7 | Good question -- What did the TSAM installation tell it to do? | DFLAT::PLOUFFE | Jerry | Fri Jun 12 1992 18:00 | 17 |
| RE: .4
> What is DAP doing at this stage and what causes the long delay?
Well, I didn't write the TSAm installation, but my guess is that the
installation does a DAP UPDATE command to load the dictionary.
If this is the case then the time delay might have to do with the *delete*
stage of the UPDATE command. This stage (deleting old dictionary records
that relate to the TSAM entities) can take a long time.
The 5 minute message is indeed misleading...
Maybe someone on the TSAm team can verify if my guess is correct?
