    When running a set of tests on wildcard alarm rules and using the
    Notification application, The notification application stopped
    receiving alarms and the following message appeared.

    Socket failure: File table overflow
    Socket failure: File table overflow

    Running 1.2.7 on Ultrix 4.2a.
    I have not reproduced the problem.

The file /sys/conf/mips/param.c has a parameter max_nofile.
The installation guide suggests changing this from 64 to 256.
Has that been done?  If so, and you are using alarms heavily, you
may want to try a larger value (we seem to use something like 800 or 1024).

Note that you have to rebuild the kernel to make this take effect.

    Also you might post the output of a /etc/pstat -T command.
