3092.0. "Stats and DECbrdige 500" by GWTEAL::WOESTEMEYER (Why??...Why not!!!) Thu May 28 1992 10:30

Using DECmcc T1.2.7, Bridge_AM T1.2.7, and PA FM T1.2.7 there seems
to be a problem with line statistics on a DECbridge 500.

	1) All utilization statistics; network, multicast, and single
	   destination using the FCL return:

		Attribute Not Available

	   Yet looking at the line counters and the utilization
	   algorithms all the necessary data seems to be there.

	   Using Graph from the toolbox the little man throws up
	   his hands in discust, clicking on the little guy returns
	   a normal completion message.

	2) Using the FCL 'single destination throughput' will give
	   a value which disagrees with a corresponding value from
	   GRAPH. The discrepency is sometime by a factor of 100 or
           more.

    Any ideas?

    Which line on the DECbridge 500 are you doing the statistics on?
3092.2Line 2, the ethernet portGWTEAL::WOESTEMEYERWhy??...Why not!!!Thu May 28 1992 14:204
    Since the bridge only has one ethernet port, line 2, thats the line I
    was trying to get the statistics for.

3092.3Could be firmware relatedQUIVER::HAROKOPUSFri May 29 1992 14:1618
Hi Steve,

There are some issues around certain firmware versions not handling the line
counters correctly on the 500 and 600 series.

Could you post the following here so I can investigate further:

1) mcc>show bridge <bridge_name> software version

2) mcc>show bridge <bridge_name> line 2 all counters

3) mcc>show bridge <bridge_name> line 2 all statistics

Thanks,

Bob
3092.4Another questionQUIVER::HAROKOPUSFri May 29 1992 15:1715
Hi Steve,

One more question I forgot to ask:

Is this a DECbridge 500 or DECbridge 5xx?

The command:

mcc>show bridge <bridge_name> hardware type

will indicate the exact model.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

    Ask and you shall receive, hope this will help isolate the problem.

    Bob,

    It is a DECbridge 500, not a 5xx,

    Steve
3092.7It's a firmware problemQUIVER::HAROKOPUSMon Jun 01 1992 14:4113
The DECbridge 500 with software version 3.0 does not return the following
line counters:

Total Bytes Sent
Multicast Bytes Sent

These counters are needed to compute the network, multicast, and single
destination utilization statistics. I have reported this problem to
the bridge firmware developers.

Bob

    This brings up a need for a future feature. Firmware problems in
    agents will always happen. When pre-programmed statistics don't work,
    the user is confused. The ability to hit some kind of help key, and
    get the equation being used would allow the user to go poke the agent
    for those specific attributes to help figure out what is wrong. As
    user defined statistics are supported (hint: marketing requirement for
    next release) - this feature would be of even more use.

    Will the ELM release notes for V1.2 note that statistics for the
    DECbridge 500 will not work due to the DECbridge 500 firmware??
