    I am sorry to post here a log file of a LAN AUTOTOPOLOGY because
    I encountered a Fatal Error where as neither the Manual nor the Log
    file gives me any valuable hint on what is wrong or why the autotopology
    fails. I do not care about the intermediate errors.
    
    How can one find back what occured during that map file generation,
    and why it failed?

The STM FM writes a map file to the mcc_maps area.   The error message:

(E)  Fatal error occurred during map file generation.

indicates that it could not create the map file.  Check to make sure that
you have write access to the mcc_maps area.

    The protections are clearly not a problem, as the account has all
    privileges.  I have no problems with the MAPs doing e.g. DECnet
    autotopology.
    
    	It must be something different.  Can I put some trace or log Flags?

I checked the code and that error only occurs when the map file could not
be created and opened for write access.

Please post the following:

$show log mcc_maps
$dir/prot (on the mcc_maps directory file)


mcc>show domain sample all attr


You may also want to open the domain sample from the IMPM, put some objects in 
it manually and see if you can save a map file for the domain.

    I have no problems to put entities in the domain using the toolbox, and
    save the map file.  Remember I have all priveleges ! 
    
    I think we have to look more closely on the Autotopology procedures. 
    Can we make extensive tracing using some logicals ?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, but I just figured this out.
The problem you are having will be fixed in the SSB version.  See note 3276.3
for details and a workaround for now.
