3068.0. "Questions about Circuit AM..." by TOOK::MCPHERSON (Life is hard. Play short.) Sun May 24 1992 19:54
I'm working on a critical proposal (aren't they all? ;^) ) to provide the
OSS management system for a large telecom transmission network. We are
planning to use TeMIP/DECmcc with some additional 'custom' AMs and FMs.
It *looks* like the Circuit AM may be able to provide a lot of the sort of
the services that we need. However, after reading over Circuit AM Use
Guide, I have a few questions about 1) Notification Svcs Propagation w/the
Circuit AM, and 2) How to define new classes of endpoints.
Notification propagation
Let's say I define a complex circuit (say a DS3) that contains
several other DS1 circuits. Each DS1 circuit in turn contain 24 DS0
circuits.
If I have an an alarm rule fire or event condition on one of the
DS0's contained within the DS3 hierarchy, will the DS3 circuit on the
map change color?
The reason I am not certain is that that I thought that Notification
only worked on propagation "up" from child-to-parent. If you look
at the circuit model, the 'child' circuits of, say, a DS3 are listed
not as children, but as an *ordered* *list* of circuits contained by
the circuit.
Defining new circuit endpoint types
We will need to be able to define circuits with endpoint
relationships to devices *other* than DECnet and IP objects. These
will need to represent fiberoptic connections between high-speed
fiberoptic multiplexers. The circuits themselves will represent
levels in the STM hierarchy and ultimately the "E series" hierarchy
at the lower levels (E.g. E0, E1, E3 etc).
How best do we go about adding support for the STM series and
European digital hierarchy (e.g. E0, E1, E3, etc) series in the
CiruitType ? Can we just write the additional MSL and augment the
circuit model?
What do we need to do to add support of new endpoint entities
(assume that we have already developed the AMs to manage the endpoint
entities) ?
This is important, so all help will be appreciated.
