3067.0. "MSU vs DECmcc EFT T1.2.7 funcionality?" by MXOV06::LERIOS () Fri May 22 1992 21:00
Hi I have some comments about aspects of the funcionality that
we offer with MSU compared with those given by DECmcc BMS (EFT T1.2.7)
a) Reports:
- With Msu we have "the generate reports function" as part of
the iconic map ,while in DECmcc we have to generate reports
using a command procedure outside of the iconic interfase.
Is there any reason for Decmcc not to offer it?
b) Distributed Configuration:
- in MSU its major components can run either locally o remotely
in a distributed configuration. Components like network map,
map status process, data collector process can be place in the
local system (network management station) or on remote systems
in the same network
what about having these in DECmcc BMS?
this is a powerful capability of MSU because you do not need
to install the complete product on the remote systems, you only
copy the executables required to realize the functions which are
needed, with no need to install the license in each system.
c) MSU offers the Ethernet Performance Monitor option.
-Using this tool we can display the load on the Ethernet segment
connected to the MSU host.
Does DECmcc BMS will be offering something like this...
I have been working with both products and I think that
some elements included with MSU should be implemented in DECmcc BMS.
Any comments would be appreciated,
regards,
Julio Lerios (Digital Mexico)

| Julio Lerios,
Thanks for your suggestions. As we are finishing up DECmcc v1.2
we are starting to look ahead to v1.3 and v2.0 work requirements.
I haven't played with the MSU product (nose-to-the-grindstone
stupid mentality). We need to look at other management products
and incoperate good features and ideas.
Keep those suggestions coming in!

Julio ,
My understanding is that this Ethernet Monitor Option that
you have on MSU is just a program that run out of MSU and
that is launched from MSU . So this might mean that with
DECmcc BMS Ultrix 1.2 , you could launch the same program ....
