I have a customer that is purchasing an ULTRIX workstation from us today and plans to install DECmcc for ULTRIX when it is released. The system they plan to purchase is a DECstation 5000/240 HX. Will this be supported in the first release of DECmcc for ULTRIX? The reason I am asking this question, is that I printed out the draft SPD, and it did not have the 5000/240 as a supported system. I believe this is just an oversight. The spd also mentions that if you plan on using the DECdns name server you must have the ULTRIX version of this product. Is this true? The customer already has DECdns on a VMS server, and wishes to keep it that way. Will the DECmcc for ULTRIX use the VMS name server? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -bill

3066.1 | Need DECnet/OSI for DNS clerk | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz, DECmcc Development, dtn 226-5033 | Mon May 25 1992 22:11 | 12 |
In order to use any flavor of DECdns FROM an ULTRIX system, you must be running DECnet/OSI, which is the only way to get a DECdns clerk on ULTRIX (this is not under the control of DECmcc). However, there is no problem connecting to a VMS VAXdns server from you ULTRIX DECmcc station, asuming that it is running DECnet OSI so that it has a clerk. If this is not clear in the SPD, please send a note to Steve (DELNI::S_LANE) Lane, who is the product manager working on the SPD. -- Erik |
