2982.1 | DECnet Phase V AM for DECnis 600. | CHRISB::BRIENEN | DECmcc LAN and SNMP Stuff... | Tue May 12 1992 18:58 | 13 |
| I think DNA CMIP (via the DECnet Phase V "OSI AM") is the current
protocol of choice for managing DECnis 600s. Definitely no support for
the ELMS protocol. If SNMP is supported, it'll be a subset of what's
manageable with DNA CMIP.
Historian is generic, so it *should* work (assuming no unusual datatypes
as identifiers) and PA FM has particular Phase V Statistics (which ones
do you need?).
Wally Matthews should have the details of this...

this device and to what extent.

2982.3 | Wanrouter is a decnet node of some flavor | TOOK::MATTHEWS | | Fri May 15 1992 16:49 | 28 |
| WANrouters are managed as either a DNA4 or DNA5 node. I am not
sure whether it is a Phase IV or Phase V implementation. The
architecture of all the WANrouters are that they are pure
subsets of either a Node4 or Node. DECmcc supports most of
the DNA4 architecture and all of the DNA5 architecture.
We test pretty thoroughly against DECnet Ultrix, DECnet VMS, etc.
It is the responsibility of the various entity development groups
to test their variants against DECmcc. We would never get anything
done if we had to test against every possible variant of the Phase
IV architecture and THOU WILT NOT vary from the DNA5 architecture ::-)
I suggest you send your request for WANrouter 250 specific info
to MARVIN::COBB in reading. The reason you didn't get an answer
is that the wanrouter people don't follow this notes file and
the DECmcc group have done only cursory testing against the
routers. We have 2 available to us in our test network and no
capital budget for more. All the routers in EZNet have security
access and who would want to let us test against their live
network.
If you experiment against a particular device and after carefully
checking the configuration find that there is a bug, please submit
a qar. If you test and find that it works, please let us know. In
either case we are interested.

| The WANrouter 250 is managed via DNA CMIP. SNMP can be used to monitor but
not to control the router (i.e., can SHOW, can't SET).
We've experienced no problems with DECmcc, though we haven't tested against
it extensively.
