2961.0. "Manage Synoptic & AppleTalk w/ SNMP?" by HKGACT::SUSANCHAN () Fri May 08 1992 00:28

In the DECmcc BMS V1.2.7 release note section 4.6.4, there is list of
Vendor Private MIBs that is included as part of TCP/IP SNMP AM
installation kit.

Does it mean that if I have all these MIBs add as the MIB extensions,
those entities can be managed using SNMP? Corresponding to this, do they
have SNMP agent reside in their box. I am especially interest on
managing MACs on an AppleTalk network and Synoptic box.

If NOT, how can the Synoptic box and MACs on an AppleTalk network be
managed?

2961.1No support for MACs on AppletalkCHRISB::BRIENENDECmcc LAN and SNMP Stuff...Fri May 08 1992 13:227
DECmcc BMS has no direct support for Appletalk nodes.

SNMP access of Routers which speak SNMP/IP as a management protocol and
also connect to Appletalk networks (was it Proteon?) can be supported,
providing some indirect support of Appletalk networks...

"Indirect support" would mean loading up some *other* application (?3rd party)
that would facilitate managing Appletalk nodes AND that could coexist on the
same system with DECmcc.
