2938.0. "XTerminal Performance Woes..." by CAADC::GALVIN (Mic Galvin, MCI Team) Tue May 05 1992 16:53

    		DECmcc Performance Problems using XTerminal

I'm experiencing performance problems using an XTerminal. The VMS
platform is 5.4-3, DECmcc is BMS X1.2. The configuration is a
    VAXserver 3900 64mg memory, 2 RF71s, 1 SYSTEM, 1 DATA.The Xterminal is
    a 1300 SPX with 8mg of Memory.
    	I've followed the setup/installation SYSGEN/UAF parameters quite
closely, however, we also have MAILBUS Monitor running on the Station
and have had to bump up a number of parameters both in SYSGEN and UAF.
The immediate problem I'm experiencing is that I've been trying to
submit the iconic map to a batch queue, hoping to save a few cycles.
The error message I keep getting is,

    Xtoolkit error, can't open display
    DWT-F-DWTABORT X toolkit fatal error

This is followed by a stack dump, TRACE-F-TRACEBACK SYMBOLIC STACK
    DUMP...

Aside from the above inconvenience, I am able to open a window and
simple type, MANAGE/ENTER/INTER=DECW and start the inconic map,
however, things come to a screeching halt when I try to create entities
within domains... What I'm really asking is, IS THIS A SUPPORTED
CONFIGURATION? Are there additional tuning tips somewhere I can look
for? Thanks in advance. Please feel free to send mail offline, Mic
    POBOX::GALVIN.

Can you bring up any other DECwindow applications on the Xterminal?
The iconic map is issuing an XtInitialize() call. It is unable
to connect to the server for some reason.

Run MCC_SYSTEM:MCC_AUDIT.COM to verify that your system parameters
are set such that DECmcc can run. Also, what do you mean by
screeching halt? Does it hang?, Accvio?,
