2905.0. "Can't get recording started" by ODIXIE::PEACOCKR () Thu Apr 30 1992 18:47

    I have just tried to get recording to work for the first time by
    following the example in the 1.1 documenation. But I have encountered
    an error message right off the bat and can't seem to find anywhere that
    explains what is wrong.

    I used the menus and filled in as follows:

    Partition		Counters
    Begin time		18:00
    End time		19:00
    Polling period	00:10:00
    Keep age		1
    Security		--DEFAULT VALUE--

    After I start I get:

    Entity Existence Info	Entity Existence Cannot Be Determined

    MCC Routine Error %RMS-F-FNM, error in file name

    Where should I be looking to determine what these errors mean? I
    couldn't find anything in the documentation about them. Is there
    something other than setting up the batch queue for background
    recording that I was supposed to do first?

    Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

2905.1check domain directoryTOOK::SHMUYLOVICHFri May 01 1992 10:0512

	The Historian FM creates several files in the domain directory.
    Please, check if the domain directory is a valid directory specification
    ( Show domain <domain_name> all char).
    The user who runs MCC and the Historian background process must have
    privileges to create files in this directory.

	Hope this will help.

2905.2Show Domain.....ODIXIE::PEACOCKRMon May 04 1992 15:1819
    Here's what I got when I issued the command you suggested:

    MCC> show domain .atlanta all char

    Domain LOCAL_NS:.atlanta
    AT  4-MAY-1992 14:17:31 Characteristics

    Examination of attributes shows
                                   Owner ID = "SYSTEM"
                                  Directory = SYS$MANAGER

    I am in the System Account. I realized as I was doing this that even
    though I am trying to use DECMCC 1.1 documentation, I am using the
    X1.2.15 field test. Should this still work the same anyway?

    Thanks,
