2835.0. "EMA - OSI/NMF OMNI Point 0 & 1" by ARRODS::GILLJ (John, DTN 847-5849) Thu Apr 23 1992 14:02

    I am currently answering an RFI for a large customer in the UK. Many
    of the questions request information on where we stand vis-a-vis
    OSI/NMF.

    I have scanned this notefile but have not found any statements of
    direction in relation to the following

    97. The OSI Network Management Forum have produced a number of
    specification (OMNI Point 0). These are the following:

    a) Protocol Documents.
    b) Application Services.
    c) Object Specification Framework.
    d) Forum Architectural Glossary.
    e) Forum Object Library.
    f) Naming and addressing.

    Can you provide details on when these are likely to be introduced?

    98. Provide information on the extra facilities in OMNI Point 1 and
    outline timescales for introduction.

    Any help on the above would be appreciated.

    My understanding is that in terms of implementing OSI NMF protcols - we
    have done this already e.g. BT Concert integration - and are waiting to
    productise this work. I presume this work has been done with OMNI
    Point 0 in mind.

    I also understand that the definition of managed objects by the OSI/NMF
    is not complete.

    Thanks in advance,

    John

    You need to address this to one of the following people in TBG. They
    are providing the OSI layers on DECmcc.

    John Harper TAEC::harper or OSI::harper
    Marc Flauw  TAEC::flauw
    Norm Valentine BONNET::VALENTINE

    John is the engineering manager for TBG. Marc Flauw is the development
    manager for the project and Norm Valentine is the marketeer. Norm would
    be a good starting point.

    The TBG people don't follow the notes file closely and rarely actually
    address any of the topics in the notes file. You need to send them
    mail.

Hi,

following are a few information about our current status vis-a-vis OSI/NMF :

(by the way I belong to TBG ... and I read the notes file ... sometimes)

1- We have developped, in Merrimack, 2 demos to prove the interoperability with
BT's Management System (CONCERT). These demos have been introduced in NETWORKS91
and TELECOM 91.
The reference for these developments is OSI/NMF documentation release 1.

2- At the moment the "productization" phase is being revisited. The original
plans were to implement release 1 documents where useful (and possibly add
new objects where missing).

3- As you know OMNIPOINT1 documentation is not yet frozen...The very soon
publication of these documents and the impact on what we will develop in under
investigation.

	Given the current "questions" about the NMFization of DECmcc, I really
encourage anyone with information about the interest of customers for it, to
make it known urgently !!!
