2826.0. "Selective Address Forwarding?" by VCSESU::BRANAM (Steve, VAXcluster Sys Supp Eng LTN2-2/F15, DTN 226-6056) Wed Apr 22 1992 16:39
(Cross-posted in IAMOK::VITALINK_BRIDGE)
On a Vitalink, I would like to be able to restrict packet forwarding to
those packets originating from a known set of source addresses, and have
the bridge discard all other packets. The purpose of this is to restrict
use of a given T1 link to a specific set of nodes, and keep any other
nodes that might otherwise use this path out. The nodes would be using
DECnet, LAT, and SCS protocols. Basically, I don't want the rest of the
ELAN to chew up my T1 link.
The BRIDGE AND EXTENDED LAN REFERENCE states that DECbridge 500/600
models support "selective address forwarding," which "allows you to
indicate the specific source and destination addresses to be forwarded
and instruct the bridge to filter (discard) all other addresses."
Do any Vitalink bridges support this capability? Will the DECmcc SNMP AM
(or whatever the appropriate DECmcc module is) provide the management
capabilities to do this? Are there any manual switches on the Vitalink
box which might be involved (never seen a Vitalink box myself)?
Are there any better ways to restrict access to the T1 link?
