I have a customer who is running MSU but wants to buy Cisco's NET CENTRAL. From what I've been able to gather, it only runs on SUN, which means they'd have to buy a Sun box to run it on as well... Does anyone have any competitive info on the product...What does it do, what can't it do? Can MSU do (or DECmcc 1.2 for ULTRIX) more or less... Any advice on how to counter??? Thanks, Jeff

Cisco's NET Central is nothing special from what I have heard, but I haven't seen it. I think Wayne Mackey (product management for MSU) has seen it. Cisco sales people are not specifically goaled to sell it, and in fact I've talked to cisco sales reps who would rather sell a MSU or MCC to a customer if they are a DEC shop. We have the cisco mibs for both MSU and MCC - so can manage their boxes. MSU should be your choice for this case since the customer obviously isn't trying to do anything fancy. There have been on again off again dealings with cisco to try to get them comfortable about recommending a management solution from Digital - they are about to be on again. bill |
