| | The current one, due to its size and activity has become unreadable.
| Even a DIR/UNSEEN takes forever.
| It may also be a good idea to separate, toolkit and normal
| activities into 2 different conferences.
| Does anyone else agree with this ? ................................
I don't agree. Creating 2 new conferences for MCC would mean we would
have to search through THREE for information -- the two new ones and
this existing "old" conference. Unless the moderators sift this
conference into the two new ones -- something I'll bet the moderators
are much too busy to do. I think it makes more sense to leave it all
in one place.
I'm fortunate enough to be on the same extended LAN as the MCC
notefile, so it doesn't take me that long to search for things I need.
I can understand that slow access is frustrating. Is there some other
way we can improve this?
Two questions:
* DIR/UNSEEN takes a long time, but how often do you do that? I think
reading the file with Next Unseen uses a more efficient way to search
through unseen notes than does the Directory command, but I don't know
for sure.
* When you say separate toolkit and normal activities, what do you
mean by the latter? Everything that's not in the toolkit? I don't
think there are that many notes in here dealing specifically with the
toolkit.

2750.2 | Seperate by version. | VCSESU::WADE | Bill Wade, VAXc Systems & Support Eng | Mon Apr 13 1992 13:14 | 12 |
| Gil,
In my opinion it would have made more sense to have started a T1.2
conference and limited this one to V1.1 info. Too late now.
At this point I would suggest creating a new conf for the next FT
version.
Some time back the question of creating seperate use and toolkit
conferences was asked and the general concensus was to keep it all
together. But I think seperating versions makes sense.

I have enough @(*#@* conferences I have to keep track of and
follow up on cross-postings.

What about using a reserved note containing an up-to-date directory of
all the notes ?
Some conference moderators use to do this...

2750.5 | user group type notes in ENUF::NETMGT | SKIBUM::GASSMAN | | Tue Apr 14 1992 08:25 | 9 |
| There is a network management conference on ENUF::NETMGT that can be
used to discuss general network management issues. Innovative uses of
MCC and success stories could go there, leaving this conference for the
"how do I" or "this seems broken" type of comments. This file is very
engineering oriented, many developers make use of it, and it's very
valuable. We do need a "users group" kind of conference though that
doesn't expose the gizzards.

2750.6 | This debate has been going on for a long time | TOOK::GUERTIN | Menagerie Control Center | Tue Apr 14 1992 08:59 | 8 |
| The only problem with a "users group" type of conference it that
sometimes the "I can't get this to work" notes turn out to be an
honest-to-goodness bugs. I assure you that most developers will
not monitor the "users" notesfile (probably only the PM developers).
So getting to "bug declaration" can be a while (then people will
start cross-posting....)

2750.7 | What about keywords | HAZARD::BAKER | Paul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311 | Tue Apr 14 1992 09:01 | 5 |
| I agree that this conferance is getting too big, but if everyone used
keywords appropriately, then searching for a particular topic would not be
quite so painful.

2750.8 | the conference will be closing.... | TOOK::CALLANDER | MCC = My Constant Companion | Wed Jun 10 1992 14:54 | 17 |
| I am sorry I have been lax the last two months with getting the
keywords in (and don't groan "she's back..."). It is currently
my intention to start a new conference with the Vnext release.
i want to seperate the field test from the released kit questions.
As soon as the SSB kit is made available on the net it is my
intention to start the new conference.
I will be starting only one conference though, and this one will
be left active for ~1 month to allow people to get the answers to
existing/outstanding questions, and to give you enough time to
upgrade to V1.2. Depending upon how long it takes customers to
get V1.2 there might be a slight time that this remains available
for v1.1 questions as well.

2750.9 | retain old conf | CSOADM::ROTH | The Blues Magoos | Wed Jun 10 1992 17:23 | 7 |
| Please find the disk space to keep this conf online but writelocked.
It can probably answer many questions for those of us that are just getting
started with MCC.
Thanks-
