2710.0. "%MCC-W-VALUEMISSING, the attribute/argument value is missing" by FOUR62::LICAUSE (Al Licause (338-5661)) Tue Apr 07 1992 14:15

This question comes from an ignorance of SNMP TRAPS in general but I've asked
ignorant questions before.

V5.5 VMS, X1.2.15 DECmcc.....UCX V2.0.

I've issued the following command;
    mcc> set snmp ds700_4 snmp snmpEnableAuthenTraps

DS700_4 is a DECserver 700. What attribute am I missing when trying the
command?

Does the fact that I'm running V2.0 UCX have any bearing?

Thanks,
Al

2710.1Provide a value for the attribute you're trying to set ...DANZO::CARRWed Apr 08 1992 15:199
Al,

It appears that you haven't provided a value for the snmpEnableAuthenTraps
attribute (valid values are enabled,disbabled).

Example: MCC>set snmp ds700_4 snmp snmpEnableAuthenTraps disabled

Dan

2710.2thanks, but is something missing?FOUR62::LICAUSEAl Licause (338-5661)Wed Apr 08 1992 17:1823
Dan,

thanks for the info......

This worked, but when I used the FORMS interface and entered:

      Verb: set
    Entity: snmp ds700_4 snmp
 Arguments: snmpEnableAuthenTraps  <cursor left here
Qualifiers:

When I hit the HELP key at the end of the Arguments line, shouldn't I have
been prompted with ENABLE or DISABLED?

By the way, the command completes, but returns with "no response from entity".
I can issue any other command to the same entity and it returns the requested
information. Is this command broken or is the DECserver 700 broken?

I do have my workstations IP address set for community "PUBLIC" on the
DECserver.

	Nope. Forms mode doesn't do prompting for args.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to double check the case. (I've been bitten by this a
few times...) There is a difference between "PUBLIC" and "public".

	Also make sure that community has been set up for both read and
	write access.

2710.5thanks....FOUR62::LICAUSEAl Licause (338-5661)Thu Apr 09 1992 15:507
thanks to both .3 and .4.

Unfortunatley, I had to ship the DECserver 700's back.....they were loaners.

Hopefully someone else might get to try this and benefit.
