2633.0. "problem deleting rules after upgrade" by SGWS::SID (Sid Gordon @ISO) Thu Mar 26 1992 06:31
I'm using local namespace (MIR) instead of DNS.
When I upgraded from 1.2.4 to 1.2.15 I saved (beforehand) the files
MCC_COMMON:MCC_INS_ATT.DAT and MCC_COMMON:MCC_INS_ENT.DAT, and then
restored them. Everything seemed to work nicely now except for the
following problem. It may be a bug or it may be related to the way I
did the upgrade - you can decide. In any case, can someone tell me how
to fix the problem?
I had about 5 rules defined. After I upgraded I wanted to delete the rules.
I tried to delete them using the rule toolbox. In each case, after
I deleted a rule, MCC crashed with the following:
Event Disaster unmarshall sanity chk failure
Buffer at addr: F4CD30, len: 104, lp: EC5058
Entity size: 56
60 00 00 00 30 00 01 03 00 00 10 02 20 00 10 01 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 61 7F 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 02
00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 10 00 20 00 10
6C 00 00 D5 00 B4 00 10 00 10 00 10 00 20 00 00 6C 00 00 F5 00
00 00 00 00 10 00 10 00 20 00 00 6C 00 00 34 00 00 00 00 00
Bad AES Dump:
***** Invalid MCC Descriptor *****
%Thread 9 terminating with exception:
%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual address=00000000, PC
=201C0000, PSL=001A0FCC
But when I restart MCC the rule is gone anyway. So I thus deleted all five
of the rules. In each case the dump is the same, except for the number after
lp: (for example, in another dump it was
Buffer at addr: F5CD30, len: 104, lp: E6BC58
The rest of the dump is the same.
Now every time I try to create a rule, I get the same dump. And when
I go back into MCC and try to enable or disable it or delete it,
I get the same dump. Is there anyway to clean this up via the FCL
interface? I can't get the rules to work...
Help?

| It certainly sounds like a bug to me.

| I think you needed to extract the rules before the upgrade (or use an
MCC procedure to create them in the first place) because many of
the MIR files when a local namespace was used had format changes
(and continue to have them) from one internal baselevel to another.
It is one of the hassles of using internal baselevels.
