2616.0. "How large networks without DNS?" by STKHLM::BERGGREN (Nils Berggren EIS/Project dpmt, Sweden DTN 876-8287) Tue Mar 24 1992 02:04

    Hi,

(I guess that this question has been answered somewhere but I didn't
    find it...)

A customer is asking for DECmcc (for VMS) and wonders how large
network he can manage without having DNS (given DECmcc v1.2).
    Are there any general rules?

       thanks,
          Nils

Essentially, you need to start using DECdns as soon as you need two
DECmcc stations to manage the network. DECdns provides for sharing
of configuration information between the two.

Also:

DNA (Phase 5) on VMS will limit you at about 80 nodes.
That is using the local DNS cache with a "Preload" feature
for "Small" nets.

Dave-

I presume you are talking about the DECnet/OSI local namespace?
That limitation would be independent of the DECmcc local namespace.
