I am responding to an RFP for a local college and the college asks the following question: " The Vendor shall discuss its product support or planned support on the draft IEEE standard P802.3K, Layer Management for HUB devices" Can anyone explain what this stardard is and do our management products support this standard. Thanks, Sean

Try asking in the MOUSE::ETHERNET or ENGINE::HUB_MGNT notes conference. Chris

But notice that it is a DRAFT standard... and note that we usually are prohibited from including future plans in writing in response to RFPs. s/rob

I happened to come across an individual that new what P802.3k was. It appears that an IEEE group is looking at what network management protocol should be fostered in the future. Currently, there are two schools of thought: a, Create a super set of SNMP. b, Further CMIP. Since this is standard is in a draft status the above is only conjecture. For those that need more information, some on in DECshould be watching this draft process and maybe they can tell the field whats going on. I realize that I am NOT asking for PID info, just what the draft standard is about. Regards, Sean |
