2521.0. "Problem with private MIB (also when looking into)" by TAVIS::PERETZ () Tue Mar 10 1992 10:04
Hello,
The following message is from a third party that is evaluating DECmcc
as a managing tool for MULTINET (a hub made by LANNET).
Here is the message. Can anyone help?
Peretz
Hi,
I added a private MIB to the DECMCC (ULTRIX VERSION T1.2.3 )
Utilizing the procedure /usr/mcc/mcc_system/mcc_tcpip_mtu.csh, I got
confirmation messages for phase 1 and phase 2.
When trying to add an entity of an SNMP type from the toolbox, i got the
following error:
MCC_S_PM_DICT_NO_CODE_ATTG - Node 18 CSMACD 5081
and a DECmcc MEssage:
Map Window Message: code for an attribute group/partition
is not in the Dictionary.
I got the same error messages when trying to look into a registered
Ultrix DECstation.
What did I do wrong? How to fix this problem?
The DECmcc produces the files lannet2.com, lannet2.lis and lannet2.ms
(the original file is lannet2.mib).
I send also the file lannet2.mib, for closer inspection.
Best regards
Meir

| Meir,
The dictionary on Ultrix has some problems when it exceeds
a certain size. I would suggest that your customer wait for the
next release, which has a fix for this problem. If you need further
information regarding this problem, please contact Jerry Plouffe.

1. How much time he has to wait? Is it about two weeks or two months?
2. Is the private MIB of this customer (attached to .0) considered a very
big one? Is there any way around this size problem (like maybe to cut
the size of the MIB)? This is just an evaluation stage and I do not
want him to completely stop the process until next release.
Peretz (Meir is the customer...)

We do not have an updated field test kit ready yet.
I can't find this customer on our list of field test sites, so I don't
know when they will be able to get an update.

2521.4 | If size is issue, then remove NODE. | TOOK::MCPHERSON | Save a tree: kill an ISO working group. | Wed Mar 11 1992 08:55 | 13 |
| If you're feeling up to it (and, of course you're not managing any PhaseV
entities as part of the evaluation), you could just go into DAP and DELETE the
DNA5 stuff from the dictionary.
E.g. DAP> DELETE CLASS NODE
DAP> DELETE CLASS MCC SUBCLASS DNA5_AM
DAP> EXIT
This should reduce the size of your dictionary by quite a bit. (class NODE is
humongous!)
Important note: you may end up doing more damage than good if you don't fully
understand the consequences of what you're doing and proceed VERY carefully.

2521.5 | T1.2.3 is INTERNAL USE ONLY | TOOK::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Fri Mar 13 1992 10:23 | 13 |
| One more thing. The version you indicate was an INTERNAL USE ONLY
release and one baselevel before the EFT kit. It likely has all sorts
of problems and isn't supported internally let alone at a customer.
Please keep in mind that baselevels that are posted as available for
INTERNAL USE ONLY are just that. They may NOT be installed on any
system not on Digital Property. A NETsupport contract is not an
exception. Internal is internal. It is company policy that not-released
products may not be supplied to customers unless written agreements
through product management (like field test for example) have been
made.

It is internal. The software is installed on one of our DECstations and the
customer is doing some experiments here inside our building.
