Hello, Given the following picture.... ---------- | Director| ---------- | | lan 1 ---------------------------------------------------- | | -------------- | LB 200 | -------------- | | lan 2 ------------------------------------------------ 1) Can the Lanbridge 200 be setup such that it monitors the activity on lan 2 without forwarding any packets between the two lans? 2) How "granular" can the the bridge get as to traffic types? For example, a customer wants to know the % or # of a certain type of TCP/IP packet. 3) Can you do anything like the Vitalink and do pattern matching?? Thanks! Peter

Peter, You can put the LANbridge 200 in manual filter mode, then add a forwarding entry for specific addresses you wish to allow through the bridge. You should be able to monitor LAN 2 without allowing packets across, but I haven't tried it. Perhaps I'll get a chance soon and I'll let you know. I have used DECelms on a LB200 for most monitoring because I like the display better than DECmcc. You can spot trends easier. You still have limitations on what you can monitor, though. It is not as good as having a bridge set up as an LTM, but at least you can use the bridge for more than just monitoring. %^) What "patterns" are you looking for? I'll try to test this for you to see exactly what I can get. -Dan |
