2494.0. "MCC_graph - postage stamp maps" by GIDDAY::JEFFERY (NWSS - West Australia) Thu Mar 05 1992 06:23

    	I have recently started to use MCC_graph - which performs very well.
    I have come across one problem that has defied solution, and is causing
    a lot of difficulty.

    	The MCC map has been created with many domains, and is built
    with each domain representing a separate LAN segment. This gives a
    logical representation of the topology which is quite large and
    complex.

    	The 'top-level' domain only covers the top left hand portion of the
    available (default) MCC screen. (This is useful since all domains can
    be viewed from one DECwindow screen). However, when MCC_graph is used to
    output this domain, the print out displays the entire MCC screen area
    (mostly blank) with the actual 'used' portion of the MCC screen
    representing about 10% of the output.

    	Is it possible to 'window' or 'zoom' on the actual area of the
    MCC map that I want to have MCC_graph print ? It will be very painful
    to recreate all of the maps if this can't be done.

    		Thanks for your help,
    					Roger.

2494.1not normal behaviourCLARID::HOFSTEETake a RISC, buy a VAXThu Mar 05 1992 06:5411

The borders of the area that MCC_GRAPH uses is determined by the objects
in the domain. In other words, the highest,lowest,right-and leftmost
coordinates are determined by objects (icons,lines). So normally, there
shouldn't be blank space. Are you sure that there is not a small line piece
somewhere on your map?

If you mail me your mapfile, I can have a look at it.

2494.2Michaelangelo doesn't like my artGIDDAY::JEFFERYNWSS - West AustraliaFri Mar 06 1992 03:439
    Thanks for the offer Timo, but the artwork is from a sensitive site,
    and can't be removed. I'll go searching for miniscule (virus-like)
    objects lurking on the peripheries.

    If I don't find any though - anyone with other possibilities ? This
    thing is worse than the common cold.

    					Thanks,

2494.3made with autotopology?CLARID::HOFSTEETake a RISC, buy a VAXFri Mar 06 1992 07:126
Was this map made with autotopology? I just had a call from somebody else,
describing the same symptoms, but on closer inspection it turned out indeed
that there were other objects on the map. I haven't checked it myself.

2494.4works fine hereCLARID::HOFSTEETake a RISC, buy a VAXFri Mar 06 1992 07:3313
Just tried it myself with an autotopology map, and things come out fine.
However, notice that if you use the /ONE qualifier , mcc_graph autoscales
everything on one page, without changing the x:y aspect ratio. In other words,
if your map is very 'wide stretched' (= much bigger in x than in y), than
obviously an autoscale on one page will result in a picture using only the
bottom part of the page. To avoid this, you could use either the scaling
methods as explained in the doc, or rotate the picture and print in
landscape.

Hope this helps

    Thanks for your help. No I have not used autotopology. The problem (as
    Timo said) was on the map - a vertical line on the LH boundary which I
    had always thought was a border (actually there were at least 10 lines
    - all overlaid). Since I didn't put them there (intentionally) - who knows ?

    					Thanks again,
    							Roger.
