2486.0. "Help, I need to represent non-managed entities on maps" by ANOSWS::COMFORT (Spent a little time on the hill) Wed Mar 04 1992 14:21

    Hi,

My customer SmithKline Beecham is pretty much demanding that I find a
way to implement "placeholders" on the iconic map interface. I had
originally tried to do this with domains, but ran into a notification
problem (I am guessing due to too many domains). The specific need is
to accurately represent devices such as PBXs and other non-manageable
entities, but still be able to point, grunt and see reference
information about the "entity". I understand that MCC V 1.2 allows
partial registration of entities (ie. ones that are not accessable at
the moment). My desire would be to do something like the following:

    1. Get version 1.2 down here (EFT, pre-release, whatever)

    2.	Use the Ethernet AM (or whatever) to register these "placeholders"
with bogus ethernet addresses and enter the reference information.

    3.	Place these entities on the maps using MCC version 1.1

    4.	Make a longer term request to engineering to develop a method
for maintaining this type of "entity".

I appreciate any input as to whether steps 1 - 3 will get me out of my
    current situation.

    Regards,

    Dave Comfort

V1.2 has pure "reference entities", which can be displayed on the map.
However, I don't think this will help you retrofit a V1.1 system.
Perhaps someone else can comment on the possibility you present.

I'm developing a PABX AM, it is for the Ericsson MD110 PBX.
It is already possible to manage the Alarming part of the PBX,
and the Accounting part is almost ready.
(see also the PABX_AM notesfile press KP7 to add this)
