My X1.2.15 install appears to have emptied by previous MIR. Should this have 
occured ? Can I recover my previous data ?

I was using the local MIR, not DNS.....

Upgrading  T1.2.4 to X1.2.15 on VMS V5.5

    It is DECmcc installation "policy" not to delete data files.  If
    anything the old files get renamed.  Sometimes conversion utilities
    are used to reformat old files.  There was a bug in earlier kits
    where the DNS Local MIR files were getting purged (if the user
    specified the purge option).  Fixing this was on our "to do" list. 
    I will check up on it.
