2386.0. "ieee802 only and reachable alarm?" by MCDONL::BUCKLEY (ski fast,take chances,die young) Thu Feb 20 1992 19:30

Is there an easy way to set up an alarm for an ieee802-only ethernet station to
show if the node is up or down? (happens to be an IBM as400). How about
trapping the loss of connectability?

2386.1RESPONDING ADDRESS should be a good way, but...CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentTue Feb 25 1992 01:3712
    I tried using the RESPONDING ADDRESS in V1.1, but got a message
    indicating that the variable type was not supported. This would
    actually be a very good way to check if the controller responded.

    Syntax would be something like this:

      EXPRESSION = (STATION .as400 RESPONDING ADDRESS <> 08-00-xx-xx-xx-xx)

    This is just a suggestion to point you in the right direction. I have
    not tried it.

  The id802 datatype is not supported by alarms, but I believe it has
  been put on the list for v1.2 --

Support in Alarms FM for ID802 has been coded and should be tested
shortly (the LAN BU needed this support for FDDI-related Alarms
against Upstream Neighbor Address)...
