2364.0. "MCC Reinstall Problem" by ESMAIL::SHETHAR () Tue Feb 18 1992 20:53

	Greetings,

	I am being driven crazy by a problem on our VAXstations that
	are used for MCC training. We have eight VAXstation 3100s, each
	with 24 Mb of memory and an RZ55 disk. When the class goes to
	re-install DECmcc on a system that already has it installed, they
	encounter this problem (on all stations): when the installation
	procedure does a "do mcc_system:mcc_enroll_dir.com", an access
	violation occurs:

		(installation procedure running)
			     |
			     |
			     V
		man/ent
			do mcc_system:mcc_enroll_dir.com

		%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO,access violation, reason mask=04,virtual ad-
			dress=00000000,PC=000cd448,PSL=03c00009
		%SYSTEM-E-ACCVIO,access violation,reason mask=!XB,virtual ad-
			dress=XL,pc=!XL

			(this continues for each attempted module enrollment)

			     |
			     |
			     V
			do mcc_system:mcc_enroll_bms.com

			(access violations again for attempted enrollment)

	The end result is predictable: the IVP fails and you cannot do any-
    	thing with mcc without getting these access violations. The only way
	I can solve this problem is by taking a backup TLZ tape (that has DNS
	and MCC already configured) I made about eight monthsa ago and
	restoring it to the disk. Then the system comes up without any
	problems, but a re-install will blow it away again!!

	I have checked operating params using AUDIT_MCC.COM, deleted all the
	MCC files from SYS$LIBRARY,SYS$SYSTEM, [MCC], and then re-installed,
	rebooted the system a various points while doing the above... nothing
	seems to work. Any ideas would be appreciated.

	DECmcc 1.1, VMS 5.4, DNS 1.1.

Answer for QAR #02384:
------ --- ------- -------

With DECmcc V1.2, we are encountering no problems anything like this.

Your description indicates that you have carefully cleared your system of
all old images which would be our first concern.

We cannot reproduce this problem, and no of no similar problems existing
at any DECmcc T1.2 sites.
