2342.1 | MIB II does not need to be compiled | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz, DECmcc Development, dtn 226-5033 | Thu Feb 13 1992 12:38 | 7 |

MIB II is an integral part of V1.2, so you don't need to compile anything.
Some vendor private extensions may be available, and would need to be
compiled.

2342.2 | MIBs that agree with agents in concise MIB format | TOOK::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Thu Feb 13 1992 13:13 | 12 |
| And...
The major difficulties I would expect you to run into is getting the
vendor private extensions (if you need em for the evaluation) for
all the devices
-1 in concise mib format so we can compile them
-2 that agree with the agents on the devices
I don't know if we have any of the ones you mentioned. Someone else
may and reply here.

About the mibs. The Synoptics mib is on the V1.1 and T1.2.X kits.
3COM, as far as I know, supports only MIB II. I have a copy of the
SUN and HP mibs. Let me know if you want them and I'll mail them
to you. I have no information about the mibs supported by the other
SNMP agents.

2342.4 | Be sure each node has an SNMP Agent. | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Sun Feb 16 1992 15:58 | 11 |
| John,
You're also going to have to make sure that there are SNMP agents
on each of the nodes. The DECmcc V1.1 SNMP_AM will not even allow a
node to be registered if it is not running an SNMP agent.
Additionally, the T1.2.4 (soon to be V1.2) version will only allow
you to get minimal (e.g., ICMP / ping) information from a node not
running an SNMP agent.
