2334.0. "Where is notification data stored & can I access it?" by CUJO::HILL (Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident) Thu Feb 13 1992 00:16
1. Which file contains notification instance data which is being
accessed via Notification Services?
2. Is this data accessible via a user-written application?
3. How long does it stay around?
4. I'm particularly interested in getting alarm severity info
(WARNING, CRITICAL, ...) for a specific instance of a
notification instance. Possible?
-Thanks,
Dan
By the way, my customer's goal is to write a utility that grabs this
data from the appropriate MCC repository, transfer it to a SUN running
OpenView, and highlight an icon or two of their own design.
They do not want the user on the SUN to have any control over the
display on the SUN, and they want to control when the display is sent.

2334.1 | Notification log file | TOOK::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Thu Feb 13 1992 12:52 | 6 |
| In V1.2 you can enable LOGGING of Notifications and you get to specify
the name of the file (or take a default). Everything you need should
be in the file/

2334.2 | logging notifications from map | TOOK::CALLANDER | MCC = My Constant Companion | Mon Mar 02 1992 12:25 | 10 |
| In the field test kit the logging function is limited to the fcl
interface, but this has been corrected/enhanced for the final kit, such
that a more comprehensive logging functionality will be available from
the notification window. The logging function will allow logging of
brief/full/brief+alarms formats; it will allow you to specify the file
to log to; it will provide for auto purging of files; it will provide
file lifetimes (number of events to a file before a new version is
opened); it will also provide a file "versioning" scheme for Ultrix.
