2322.0. "Can we supply MIBs" by BELFST::DOGGART (I use the V** word.) Wed Feb 12 1992 05:24

    Hi All,

This is an abstract from an RFT. Can we do this for DECserver 700 and
    ULTRIX 4.2.

Suppliers must also confirm that, for all systems providing a SNMP
interface, both the Standard and Enterprise-Specific Management
Information Bases (MIBs) will be made available to the Department for
use with the Netcomm NMS3000 system. The MIBs must be available in
Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN01) format as defined in ISO 8824, ISO
8825 and CCITT X.409 and be provided in a manner sutiable for transfer
    to the Departments management system.

    Regards
    Ronnie Doggart

I am afraid that no one who monitors this notes file can answer your
question. I believe that Ultrix 4.2 has no MIB yet. I have seen a
demo that is MIB 2 and the common agent in the TIN OSF release has
    MIB 2 support.

The format that we tend to use at DEC for MIBs is the Concise MIB
Notation that replased the ASN.1 template formats. They are similar
but Concise MIB is just that, more concise. I haven't looked at the
other ISO references to see what they specify.

I have no idea whatever about a DECserver 700.

I would tend to answer yes on your RFT. I am sure that any translation
    is fairly straight forward.

ULTRIX V4.2 does include an SNMP agent. I believe it supports MIB 1.

The DECserver 700 will also include an SNMP agent and a MIB (ASN.1).
