| Try a DIRECTORY NODE4 MUTTON
Do you have some other class of object registered as MUTTON (like SNMP
or STARION?)?

| I tried this and nothing else shows up...
The return result is...
MCC> dir node4 mutton
Node4 MUTTON
AT 1992-02-10-13:12:19.934-08:00Iinf
Directory successful.
Registered Name = LOCAL_NS:.dna_node.mutton
Name = MUTTON
Address = 30.352
Note: I believe MUTTON was origionally entered as part of autoconfig could
this have anything to do with it.
Thanks!

2308.3 | Add entity needs "fullname" | TOOK::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Mon Feb 10 1992 17:26 | 9 |
| Ok, easy answer.
When you add it to your domain in the IMPM you need to specify as the
entity ".dna_node.mutton" as that is it's name. "MUTTON" is the
synonym.
The error message you are getting seems to me to be misleading.

2308.4 | Duplicate registration... redux | CONTRA::PMCVAY | Point! Click! Point! Click! | Mon Mar 08 1993 07:27 | 40 |
| I am having the same problem with the field test version of MCC V1.3.
Background:
Installed MCC T1.3.1 (PolyCenter DECmcc BMS)
Running with DNS in the DEC: namespace. The DNS servers have been
checked for latest rev levels (ECO 1 installed).
I get the same message whether using the window or character interface.
Here's the character-cell dialogue (Since NOTES doesn't accept straight
graphics input yet) :-)
---------
MCC> REGISTER NODE4 .lkg.domains.cthq1 SYNONYM CTHQ1
Node4 DEC:.lkg.domains.cthq1
AT 8-MAR-1993 07:19:17
Duplicate registration identifier, identifier already in use by another
entity.
Name = CTHQ1
---------
A search of the DEC: namespace from the top down, looking through every
branch, doesn't turn up CTHQ1 anywhere. Also, to my knowledge, CTHQ1
has never been registered in the DEC: namespace. It *has* been
registered (and removed) in a private namespace called LKGMGM:.
1. Is there a way to search (and pinpoint) the location of an entity
when this message is received? If I knew where MCC picked up this
information, I could track it down!
2. Is this error message incorrect or misleading? Is something else
going on instead?
3. If an entity already exists in the MIR, is there a way to
copy/duplicate it to a new domain? Or do I have to copy the
whole domain? (Note: a "find" and "membership search" operation
also failed to turn up CTHQ1 in any domain.)
4. ...or anything else. Am I going about registration incorrectly?

2308.5 | Check DNS link name in .dna_nodesynonym directory | TRM::KWAK | | Mon Mar 08 1993 10:19 | 15 |
|
RE: .0
The error message means that the phase4 node name CTHQ1 is in use.
The name exists as a DNS link - DEC:.dna_nodesynonym.CTHQ1
To check the existance of link:
$ mcr dns$control
DNS> show link DEC:.dna_nodesynonym.CTHQ1
DNS> show link DEC:.dna_nodesynonym.CTHQ1 attribute dns$linktarget
DNS> exit

2308.6 | DNS> SHOW LINK worked | CONTRA::PMCVAY | Point! Click! Point! Click! | Tue Mar 09 1993 07:21 | 5 |
| That did the trick. I can now import (register?) these nodes as they
appear, jumping in and out of MCC and DNS. It seems I've run into some
"historical" stuff in the namespace...
Thanks for the hint!
