Make sure that the SYNOPTICS agent is set up to handle SNMP

The SYNOPTICS agent is setup with both a read community string and a read/write
community string. I have tried both using:
MCC> show snmp dragting all char , by password="twistedsister"
SNMP drafting
AT 31-JAN-1992 09:47:09 Characteristics
No response from entity.
MCC> show snmp dragting all char , by password="bugeye"
SNMP drafting
AT 31-JAN-1992 09:47:09 Characteristics
No response from entity.
Is there a way to trace the communication exchange? Or should I try use the
default community string?
Thanks,
Bill

2232.3 | Synoptics problem. | PA::E_HATEM | | Fri Jan 31 1992 15:35 | 33 |
| Bill,
If you access to the Hub itself, check the console to see if you are
receiving the requests. Also you can add the actual IP address of your
workstation to setup file on the DECstation or (P.C) where the hub is
booted from. there is a configuration file that contains the IP
addresses.
from mcc you can try to show the synoptics box without registering it
first: MCC> dir snmp chipcom
SNMP chipcom
AT 31-JAN-1992 15:34:18
No such entity: SNMP chipcom
Unknown Entity = SNMP chipcom
MCC> show snmp chipcom udp all counters
SNMP chipcom udp
AT 31-JAN-1992 15:34:30 Counters
Examination of attributes shows:
udpOutDatagrams = 19513
udpInErrors = 0
udpNoPorts = 352485
udpInDatagrams = 371125
CounterCreationTime = 22-JAN-1992 15:10:06.31
MCC>
Also check the actual host name in UCX, if you are using upper or lower
case letters.

2232.4 | Installation of 1.1 was not correct. | IOOSRV::HITTENMILLER | | Mon Feb 03 1992 11:34 | 14 |

Hi,
After checking with the site manager, I started to review the software
versions for SNMP AM. I found the IVP for 1.1 and parts of the 1.0 kit.
After reinstalling 1.1 the problem was solved.
Thanks for your help,
Bill,
P.S. The problem was with the password being sent PUBLIC. A known element
of 1.0.
