2219.0. "Errors when registering domains, BMS V1.1" by FRSOLD::FRAFS1::MAASS () Wed Jan 29 1992 15:24

Hi all,

I have a problem with DECmcc BMS V1.1, installed at a customer site.

System: VAXstation 3100/76
Memory: 28 MB
OS: VAX/VMS V5.4-3

DNS: Two servers, a cluster VAX and the DECmcc machine, both of them
hold clearinghouses, the cluster node owns the master. Updates
and skulks work, the DNS structure needed by DECmcc is present
and protections of directories seem to be OK.

Symptom:	When registering domains with the IMPM (as .Domain.BLABLABLA),
		the following errors occur:

		- 1st try: %MCC-xxx: Unknown DNS attribute

		- 2nd try: %MCC-xxx: No such entity, domain .....

		- 3rd try: %LIB-xxx: Notification disabled for this domain ...,
			insufficient virtual memory

		- 4th try: Success!

After installing a second pagefile, the 3rd error didn't show
up again, and I only needed three attempts to register my
domains :-). Now comes the weird part: THESE ERRORS WERE NOT
REPRODUCTABLE, that is, they showed up infrequently.

Maybe a network or DNS problem, waddaya think, guys?

Thanks for your help

Let me comment on the virtual memory error.

You should be running with at least 100000 blocks of pagefile. Are you?
Copy NETS::USER$NETS:[MCC011.S-KIT]AUDIT_MCC.COM and run it. Let us
    know what the outcome is.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your fast reply! I've checked the pagefiles and increased them to
the value you suggested. I don't know at the moment whether the errors still
occur or not; but I will check that. I'll inform you when they do.

Thanx and see ya
